🌱 Proud to announce that #CO2DMC has been granted by #ChemistryNL!

We are excited to start CO2DMC, a new public-private partnership project focused on developing a cleaner route for the production of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) using #CO₂ valorization and #membrane #reactor #technology.
DMC is an important chemical for the battery value chain, including batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage. As demand for sustainable battery materials continues to grow, new low-carbon production routes are urgently needed.
In CO2DMC, we will explore the direct conversion of captured CO₂ and #green #hydrogen into DMC in a continuous process. A key innovation is the use of a membrane reactor equipped with #advanced #membranes for #selective #water #removal. By removing water as it is formed, the process can overcome one of the main limitations of direct DMC synthesis from CO₂, improving reaction performance without the need for additional chemicals.

The project brings together strong complementary expertise:
🔹 TU/e – TU/e Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, in the group of Prof. Martin van Sint Annaland, will focus on reactor and process design, modelling, and simulation.
🔹 ZEFIRA will develop and test advanced membranes for selective water removal and provide experimental data for model validation and scale-up analysis.
Together, we aim to assess both the technical and economic potential of this technology and deliver clear design guidelines for future industrial implementation.

#CO2DMC contributes to the transition towards a circular and low-carbon chemical industry by supporting CO₂ reuse, sustainable mobility, and cleaner production routes for chemicals relevant to the battery and chemical sectors.
A big thank you to ChemistryNL for supporting this project. We look forward to working together and sharing the progress of CO2DMC!
